High Wine Auction - March 17-20: Art, Wine, & Friends: Together in Spirit

2021 Co-Chairs

Aarati Alexander

Aarati and her husband, Peter, have been involved with the High Museum Wine Auction for over ten years. Their love affair with wine began while they were dating and solidified with a wedding in Napa Valley, over thirty years ago. In their mission to support the auction, they are past Benefactor Chairs and hosted a Thursday evening Winemaker dinner.

While not dabbling in wine, Aarati and Peter support a variety of local charities including the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and several Educational boards. As empty nesters, Aarati and Peter love to travel, looping in wine tastings whenever possible.

Aarati feels their biggest accomplishment is passing along the love for art, food and wine to their daughters, Sarah and Christina

Burch Hanson

Burch and her husband Mark have been enthusiastic supporters of the High Museum of Art and the Wine Auction for a number of years as Benefactors.

Born and raised in horse country renowned for bourbon, bluegrass, and thoroughbreds, Burch’s roots run deep in Lexington, Kentucky. Having enjoyed a successful career as a legal recruiter for a top law firm in Atlanta, she now spends her time volunteering on behalf of worthwhile causes close to her heart.

The Hansons love to travel with friends and family, and have enjoyed many adventures involving art, food and wine at amazing destinations around the US and the world, and making new friends along the way.  Burch and Mark have two teenage sons, who have recently taken them to new travel destinations through their travel lacrosse teams.

In addition to Burch’s love of the High Museum and the Wine Auction, she has also been actively involved in the Atlanta community and has served on the board or in other leadership roles for numerous organizations, including Fernbank Museum, The Lovett School and the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

Burch is very much looking forward to the 2020 High Museum of Art Wine Action and especially to opening a bottle and… celebrating the craft and artistry of the winemaker in March.

Caryl Smith

Caryl and her husband, Kendrick, are long-time supporters and Benefactors of the High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction. They first attended when it was held in the Lenox Square parking lot. From fledging attendees in the back of the big tent, to hosting Winemaker Dinners, and now serving as a 2021 Co-chair, the Wine Auction has been both a loving journey and an annual celebration of wine, winemakers, food, friends, and fun.

Caryl and Ken have two adult children. One of who lives in the San Francisco Bay area, which makes trips to Napa and Sonoma all the more frequent and special. Most, if not all, of Caryl and Ken’s travel and adventures, both with and without children, have focused on experiences with wine and food exploration.

Caryl has practiced law in Atlanta for more than 30 years and is still very active, with a specialty in public finance.   Her other community involvement includes more than fifteen years as a trustee on the board of the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, with the current position of Chair of the Board.  She has also served on the Advisory Board at Skyland Trail, Co-chair of Zoo Atlanta’s Beastly Feast, and Fernbank’s Timeless Affair. In recent years, Caryl and Ken have become involved in the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, a Burgundy wine society, expanding her love and knowledge of wine.

Caryl is thrilled to be partnering with Burch and Aarati to make the 2021 High Museum Wine Auction a fabulous event for all!
